Get to Know Me

Red Deer Beginning
In the fall of 2009 I was invited to play for the Red Deer Rebels. I was very excited for the opportunity to continue my hockey career in Central Alberta. As the season progressed I realized that not only did I cherish the opportunity to play for an excellent franchise, but also found an appreciation for the city of Red Deer. Being that I was born and raised on a farm in Saskatchewan before moving to Vancouver at the young age of 13, I was longing for a city that had the friendliness and feel of a small town. My junior hockey took me to many cities across Western Canada, but no other city or community felt like home. Although my season with the Rebels was completed, I felt that my journey in Red Deer was just beginning.

My Education
After I left Red Deer in 2010 to continue my hockey career for 3 more years, I found myself looking for a school to further my education. I was thrilled to hear that Red Deer College was re-establishing a mens hockey program in 2013 and it was an easy decision to return to the city I loved, to attend college while continuing to play competitive hockey. My time at the Donald School of business in downtown Red Deer helped me grow my knowledge in business as well as my knowledge about Red Deer. During my time at college I was on the honour roll several times while playing for the Kings hockey team. I was also carrying a full class schedule while working a part times sales job. In 2016 I graduated with a degree in Business Management from RDC.

Making Red Deer Home
While attending college, I moved into a town house in North Red Deer with 2 roommates. In the spring of 2014 I was hired by TBS the Team and Corporate store as a sales rep. That spring I also met my future wife, Kaylee, who has lived in Red Deer since she was a child. Kaylee and I got married in August of 2015. My wife continued teaching in the Red Deer public school district while I finished my schooling as well as launching 2 businesses. In the fall of 2016 I began a goalie school called Stable in the Net and in the summer of 2017 I partnered with current Penhold councillor Shawn Hamm to launch my second business called Stability Marketing. Since beginning my time on council our family grew as we were blessed with beautiful children. Our family is now firmly planted in a wonderful neighbourhood north of the river.

My Business
While running both Stable in the Net as well as Stability Marketing in 2017, it became evident that Stable in the Net was growing much quicker than I had imagined and needed my full time attention. My partner and I decided to shelve Stability Marketing to focus in on our new career paths. While running Stable in the Net, our client base grew from 5 goalies to over 200 goalies and goalie families. Our instructor base went from 1 to now over 20 instructors in 2025. The business has grown exponentially each year and continues to thrive in 2025. It is exciting to see my dream come to reality and to have an abundance of strong instructors that can continue to push it forward. This business has been a solid fit with my council schedule and allowed me to focus on the issues of the citizens while maintaining a satisfied client base.

City Council
In 2021 I was honoured to be elected to council to serve a 4 year term. Over the past 4 years I have gained knowledge and expertise on many complex files. As councillors we have to deal with topics that stretch far and wide, from animal bylaws to capital planning to wastewater utilities and everything in between. Many days are challenging and it is a thankless job, but I am proud to serve this city. Each day presents it's own challenges and each day I attempt to bring common sense solutions. Our council has been very diverse in our perspectives and although we don't always agree on what is the best path forward for Red Deer, we have done a tremendous job at working together despite our disagreements. It is a job that requires teamwork, creative thinking, problem solving, accountability, dedication and stability.
